August 25, (THEWILL) – One of the six national female football teams invited for the forthcoming Aisha Buhari Invitational Women’s Tournament, the Indomitable Lionesses of Cameroon, are making headway in their preparations for the elite competition slated to hold from September 13 to 21 in Lagos.
Gabriel Zabo, the head coach of the Cameroonian ladies, has invited 10 overseas-based players to camp where they will be joined by a selection of players from a pool of 30 home-based ladies who have been in camp preparing ahead.
Those invited by Zabo include Atletico Madrid Femenino’s Ajara Nchout, Napoli’s Marie Aurelle Awona, AJ Auxerre’s Carole Mimboue, FC Fleury 91’s Claudine Meffometou and Stade de Reims’ Kith Mayi. The others are Grace Yango of FC Fleury 91, Gabrielle Aboudi Onguene of CSKA Moscow, Rose Bella of Malabo King, Colette Ndzana and Claudia Voulania of Bielorussie.
As THEWILL reported recently the Indomitable Lionesses are drawn in the same group, Group B, with the Black Queens of Ghana and South Africa’s Banyana Banyana, which is the toughest draw of the competition meant to celebrate 30 years of women’s football in Nigeria.
The invitational is the first engagement of Zabo as coach of the Lionesses and will be a true test of his capacity to lead the country’s senior national women’s team to success especially taking into consideration the mettle of their competition. The Black Queens and Bayana Bayana represent some of the best female sides on the continent.
In the other draw, Group A will see the hosts, the Super Falcons of Nigeria square up against the Atlas Lionesses of Morocco and Les Aiglonnes of Mali. The first fixture will pit them against the Moroccans in the opening match of the competition scheduled for September 13 at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena, Onikan, Lagos.
