June 12, (THEWILL) – Super Eagles’ coach, Jose Peseiro, will be without Watford defender, William Troost-Ekong and Lorient midfielder, Innocent Bonke, in their TotalEnergies 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualification match against Sao Tome and Principe on Monday, June 13, at the Stade Adrar in Agadir.
Troost-Ekong and Bonke were not among the travelling squad that arrived in Morocco on Sunday morning, because the former sustained an injury three days ago against Sierra Leone at the National Stadium in Abuja, forcing him to be substituted in the 82nd minute, and Bonke is still recovering from an injury he sustained exactly two weeks ago against Mexico.
In central defence, Leon Balogun, Kenneth Omeruo, and Chidozie Awaziem are all possible replacements for Troost-Ekong, while Calvin Bassey might play as the left-sided centre-back should the Portuguese manager revert to a 3-5-2 formation.
The Super Eagles sit joint-top in Group A of the 2023 AFCON qualifying series after the first round of fixtures, with three points, the same as table toppers Guinea Bissau, who have a better goal difference.
