March 25, (THEWILL) – Reece James will not participate in the England squad’s upcoming match against Ukraine due to an injury.
James will be returning to his club, Chelsea, for further evaluation on his ongoing fitness issue. The latest unfortunate event occurred after the player missed out on the World Cup because of a knee injury, and also recently struggled with a hamstring injury.
James played only five minutes in England’s recent 2-1 victory over Italy, and his absence will be a significant loss for the team. The Football Association stated that there are no plans to replace James, as the squad prepares for their European Championship qualifier against Ukraine.
However, the team will have to manage without James and the suspended Luke Shaw as they attempt to secure their place in the tournament. Manager Gareth Southgate has already experienced setbacks with injuries, including the absence of Marcus Rashford and Mason Mount, who were both forced to withdraw due to injuries.
The team continues its preparations at Tottenham Hotspur Training Ground, aiming for a successful performance against Ukraine at Wembley, on Sunday.
