Inter Milan

December 01, (THEWILL) – Serie A defending champions Inter Milan on Tuesday night claimed a 2-0 win over struggling Spezia at San Siro, keeping them within striking distance of Napoli at the top of the table.

With a brilliant one-touch play, Simone Inzaghi’s side seized the lead after 36 minutes. Hakan Calhanoglu, Federico Dimarco, and Lautaro Martinez all played a part, with the latter supplying a clever flick to set up Roberto Gagliardini, who calmly finished from within the box to complete a brilliant passing sequence.

Martinez’s strike cannoned off the arm of Spezia debutant Jakub Kiwior in the area, earning the hosts a penalty in the 57th minute. The Argentinian made no mistake with the ensuing penalty kick, slotting it into the bottom left corner to double Inter’s lead.

Inter climbed above AC Milan into second place with the win and are temporarily one point behind Napoli but having played one more game. Meanwhile, Spezia suffered their third consecutive defeat and dropped to 17th place.

For Milan fans, it is a result that proves that their team is a legitimate contender for the defense of their Scudetto title even with all that has taken place since they lifted the trophy at the end of last season.

Despite the progress of early pace setters AC Milan and Napoli, Inter’s recent form has demonstrated that they are more than capable of competing favourably this season. Simone Inzaghi’s team has won nine of their past ten league games, and they have already faced Milan, Napoli, and Juventus.

Injury to Matteo Darmian, Andrea Ranocchia, and Stefan de Vrij had little effect on the Nerazzurri’s progress, with Federico Dimarco, Denzel Dumfries, and Roberto Gagliardini filling in admirably and giving the fans a lot to hope for.
