inter beat verona

April 10, (THEWILL) – With a 2-0 win over Hellas Verona on Saturday, Inter Milan drew within a point of Serie A leaders AC Milan in the race for the Scudetto in the 2021/2022 season.

Inter were relentless in pressing Verona in the first half, looking to win back-to-back league games for the first time this season after their Derby d’Italia upset of Juventus. And, goals from Nicolo Barella and Edin Dzeko put them up 2-0 inside 30 minutes, demonstrating their superiority.

Lorenzo Montipo was called into action almost right away after kickoff, making a superb stop to deny Ivan Perisic, but his goal was still breached by Barella’s brilliant opening. A wonderful attempt with the outside of his boot saw Barella direct Perisic’s left-wing cross in off the bar.

Again, Montipo was alert to deny Joaquin Correa a chance to double the deficit before Perisic flicked a corner into the path of Dzeko, who tapped in to make it 2-0, nonetheless.

Verona had an opportunity of their own as Giovanni Simeone exchanged a nice one-two with Gianluca Caprari, and broke through on goal, but Samir Handanovic prevented the chance from converting into a goal.

Danilo D’Ambrosio drew another fantastic save from Montipo before Dzeko sent a header over.

Simone Inzaghi’s defending champions were never in danger of losing their lead, and they might take the lead next week if Milan fails to match this excellent performance away to Torino on Sunday evening.
