Inter Milan

March 17, (THEWILL) – Inter Milan increased their advantage at the top of Serie A to three points following a 2-0 triumph against title contenders Atalanta at the Gewiss Stadium on Sunday.

The defending champions took full advantage of Napoli’s earlier goalless draw with Venezia to strengthen their position in the 2025 title race.

The match remained goalless throughout the first half despite chances at both ends, with Marcus Thuram striking the crossbar for Inter while Mario Pasalic forced goalkeeper Yann Sommer into action for the hosts.

The deadlock was broken nine minutes after the restart when Carlos Augusto headed home from Hakan Calhanoglu’s corner delivery.

The contest took a dramatic turn in the 81st minute when Atalanta midfielder Ederson received two quick yellow cards for dissent toward referee Davide Massa, reducing the home side to 10 men.

Inter capitalised immediately, with captain Lautaro Martinez finishing clinically into the bottom corner from Nicolo Barella’s pass to double their advantage.

Simone Inzaghi’s squad also finished the match with reduced numbers after defender Alessandro Bastoni received a second booking for a needless foul on Daniel Maldini in the closing stages.

Despite this late setback, Inter held firm to claim a valuable victory that puts them six points clear of Atalanta in the Serie A standings.

The result continues Inter’s impressive form in the 2025 campaign as they pursue consecutive league titles.

Their commanding performance away from home against a direct rival shows why they remain championship favourites, with their tactical discipline and clinical finishing proving decisive factors in this important encounter.
