April 20, (THEWILL) – Inter Miami claimed a narrow 1-0 victory over Columbus Crew in MLS action on Saturday, with Benjamin Cremaschi scoring the decisive goal. The match took place at Huntington Bank Field, normally home to the Cleveland Browns, where fans gathered to watch Lionel Messi and former Barcelona teammates Luis Suarez, Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba.
Cremaschi found the net in the 30th minute with an impressive diving header from Marcelo Weigandt’s cross. Despite having four shots during the match, Messi appeared frustrated as his attempts were either blocked or missed the target. Columbus dominated large portions of the game but failed to convert their opportunities.
Daniel Gazdag, making his first league start since transferring from Philadelphia Union, missed several crucial chances for Columbus, particularly in the closing stages. The striker headed over the bar from close range and later could not convert two opportunities from within the six-yard box during stoppage time. Miami goalkeeper Oscar Ustari made four important saves to maintain the clean sheet.
The victory extended Miami’s unbeaten run to eight MLS matches and moved them above Columbus into first place in the Eastern Conference. More impressively, Miami have now gone 19 regular-season games without defeat dating back to last season, equalling the MLS record previously held by FC Dallas (2010/2011) and Columbus (2004/2005).
