November 28, (THEWILL) – Inter Milan won 2-0 against Venezia thanks to a goal from Hakan Calhanoglu 11 minutes into the matchday 14 fixture at the Stadio Pierluigi Penzo.
The defending champions were not at their best, but the Turkish forward’s low drive from 20 yards proved too difficult for Venezia goalie Sergio Romero to stop.
Shortly after the opener, Mattia Aramu had the clearest chance for Venezia, shooting a dipping strike from 35 yards that Samir Handanovic had to backpedal and push over the bar to maintain Inter’s lead.
In the second half, both teams lacked polish in front of goal, with Milan Skriniar coming the closest to scoring when a corner opened up to him close to goal, only for Ridgeciano Haps to block his shot.
But, Lautaro Martinez converted from the penalty spot deep into injury time helping Inter close the gap on Napoli and AC Milan before their matches on Sunday.
Inter remain third and just one point off the top of the standings. Their next game is against Spezia at home in midweek. Venezia’s unbeaten streak comes to an end as they slide to 15th, and their next game is against Atalanta, who narrowly beat Juventus 1-0 on Saturday.
