February 25, (THEWILL) –Â Following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine this week, the International Olympic Committee advised international sports groups to cancel or relocate any events scheduled in Russia or Belarus.
The IOC also recommended that sporting organisations stop using the Russian and Belarusian flags and national anthems during competition.
As THEWILL reported, the UEFA Champions League final, which was originally set for May 28 in St. Petersburg, has already been changed to Paris. Also, the International Ski Federation and Formula One have also relocated events from Russia.
The IOC chastised Belarus, because it is a Russian ally and has allowed Russian forces to invade Ukraine over its border.
