April 18, (THEWILL) — The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has announced the release of the first batch of results for the 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), marking a significant milestone in the ongoing nationwide exercise and offering early insight into candidates’ performance.
In a statement issued by the Board’s Public Communications Advisor, Fabian Benjamin, JAMB disclosed that a total of 632,788 candidates who sat for the examination on its opening day last Thursday can now access their results.
The Board clarified that while candidates can view their scores immediately, the option to print result slips has not yet been activated.
Benjamin explained that candidates are required to check their results by sending “UTMERESULT” via SMS to either 55019 or 66019, using the same phone number registered for the examination.
He noted that this process is part of JAMB’s continued efforts to streamline access and ensure secure dissemination of examination outcomes.
The early release of results reflects the Board’s improved operational efficiency and commitment to transparency in managing one of Nigeria’s most critical academic assessments.
It also signals progress in addressing past concerns over delays and technical challenges associated with the UTME process.
However, JAMB issued a stern warning against any attempt to manipulate or falsify examination results. Dr. Benjamin cautioned candidates and their guardians against altering SMS messages received from the official platform with the intention of misleading others.
“Such actions constitute a serious criminal offence. The Board treats such misconduct with the utmost gravity,” he said, adding that security agencies are already taking action against offenders.
He revealed that two candidates and one parent are currently in custody for allegedly engaging in result falsification using artificial intelligence tools and other electronic methods.
According to him, any candidate found culpable will face the full weight of the law, underscoring the Board’s zero-tolerance stance on examination malpractice.
JAMB further reassured the public that the UTME exercise is still ongoing across various centres nationwide, and that results will continue to be released in batches as they are processed and verified.
