November 28, (THEWILL) –Â Leicester beat Watford 4-2 in a snow blizzard at the King Power Stadium, with Jamie Vardy scoring twice, sandwiched by goals from James Maddison and Ademola Lookman.
In the 16th minute, an egregious error by Super Eagles’ defender William Troost-Ekong, who ducked expecting Daniel Bachmann to collect the ball, allowed James Maddison time to half-volley past the goalkeeper.
However, two other Nigerians helped Watford in levelling the score. Wilfred Ndidi fouled Emmanuel Dennis in the box with Joshua King netting the ensuing spot-kick to equalise on the half-hour mark.
Vardy scored a dinked finish after a fine clipped ball from Maddison and then a flicked header at the near post from a corner to put the game firmly in Leicester’s hands before the break.
But, Dennis robbed Timothy Castagne in the final third and calmly waited for Kasper Schmeichel to commit before slotting home to bring the Hornets back into the game.
It meant that the Nigerian forward became only the sixth player in Premier League history to reach both five goals and five assists in 12 or fewer games, after Eric Cantona (11), Jurgen Klinsmann (12), Arjen Robben (11), Andrey Arshavin (10) and Bruno Fernandes (9).
There was one more goal for the hosts because in the 68th minute, Harvey Barnes raced through on goal and squared for Ademola Lookman to seal the win and give Leicester a two-goal cushion to maintain to the final whistle.
The game was played in icy circumstances, which posed challenges for everyone involved, including match officials who had to snowblow areas of the pitch to keep them visible.
As difficult as it appeared for outfield players to stay on their feet, goalkeepers appeared to have an even harder time spotting long-range shots through the almost football-sized raindrops. Similarly, picking the ball out at the start of the second half must have been extremely tough for the fans.
