US actress cum singer, Janelle Monáe, has revealed that she is non-binary (a term used to describe someone whose gender identity cannot be described as exclusively man or woman).
The 36-year-old spoke on Thursday, when she appeared on Season five “Red Table Talk” hosted by Jada Pinkett-Smith, Willow Smith and Adrienne Banfield Norris.
During the show, Monáe said she does not consider herself “solely as a woman”, adding that, “I feel all my energy.”
The rapper argued that God is bigger than traditional “he or she” classification of gender. Monáe also said that the fact that she is from God means, “I am everything.”
The singer, however, disclosed that she would always stand by black women despite coming out non-binary.
“I’m non-binary, so I just don’t see myself as a woman solely. I feel all my energy. I feel that God is so much bigger than the ‘he’ or ‘she’.
“And if I am from God, I am everything. I am everything. But I will always, always stand with women. I will always stand with black women. But I just see everything that I am. Beyond the binary.”
The actress initially identifies as bisexual, but in 2018, she came out as pansexual, which refers to someone who is attracted either emotionally, physically or both to all genders.
