November 15, (THEWILL) – Amazon founder, Jeff Bezos has stated that he will give away most of his wealth to charity.
He made this known in an exclusive interview with CNN. Bezos reveals he plans to donate most of his net worth to fight climate change and support people who can unify humanity.
According to Forbes, Bezos, who is 58 years old, is the second richest person alive, after Elon Musk. His net worth is about $171 billion.
But the billionaire did not provide specific details on how he plans to distribute his wealth to charity and made no mention of exactly how much capital he will give up.
“The hard part is figuring out how to do it in a levered way”, Bezos told CNN. He was interviewed alongside his partner, journalist-turned-philanthropist, Lauren Sanchez.
According to him, philanthropy is not easy. He claimed he and his team are building the capacity to give away this money.
This development is coming a few days after he and Sánchez awarded country singer, Dolly Parton $100 million as part of the Courage and Civility award. The grant money is to be allocated to a charity of Parton’s choosing.
