June 30, (THEWILL) – Prior to the formal confirmation of his transfer to Arsenal, Gabriel Jesus was caught on camera doing some media duties while sporting the Gunners’ number nine shirt.
Mikel Arteta’s side has pursued the Manchester City forward for the majority of June and finally reached a £45 million agreement with the Brazilian recently. Shortly later, personal terms were agreed upon with the transfer soon to be confirmed. However, discussion soon turned to the jersey number that Jesus will wear at the Emirates Stadium.
Before Eddie Nketiah claimed the famous number 14 jersey with the extension of his contract was extended, it could have been available for Jesus but it appears the forward will don the number nine shirt during the upcoming campaign. THEWILL recalls that it was previously worn by Alexandre Lacazette before he returned to Lyon on a free transfer.
A video that was leaked on social media on Thursday confirmed this. The video shows Jesus strolling around the pitch of the Emirates Stadium while proudly sporting the number nine on his back. Jesus has signed a five-year contract with Arsenal, who have promised to use him as a center-forward, something the 25-year-old was particularly interested in.
