April 08, (THEWILL) – Newcastle United came from behind to beat Brentford 2-1 and move back up to third in the English Premier League standings.
In a game of two halves, the Bees dominated the first 45 minutes but failed to convert their chances, with Ivan Toney missing a penalty. The visitors responded after the break and scored two quick-fire goals through Joelinton and Alexander Isak, to claim the victory.
The Bees were left to rue their missed opportunities in the first half, with Toney’s penalty miss proving costly. The home side did eventually take the lead through the same striker, but Newcastle fought back to claim all three points. The equaliser came through a David Raya own-goal on Joelinton’s effort before the 61st minute Isak winner.
The defeat is a blow to Thomas Frank’s side, who have enjoyed an impressive season so far, but they will need to start picking up points again soon if they are to keep their European aspirations alive. Meanwhile, Eddie Howe’s side can take it as a boost in their quest for a top-four finish.
Newcastle’s victory sets them up nicely for their next game against Aston Villa, while Brentford will look to get back to winning ways when they take on Wolves on Saturday.
