March 05, (THEWILL) – A gripping encounter between Nottingham Forest and Everton at the City Ground ended in a 2-2 draw, with the visitors unable to keep their lead.
Brennan Johnson scored twice for the home side to cancel out Demarai Gray’s early penalty and Abdoulaye Doucore’s header in the first half, earning both teams a vital point in the English Premier League.
The match got off to a fast start with Everton being awarded a penalty in the 8th minute, which Gray confidently converted to put the Toffees ahead. However, Forest responded with Johnson equalising just 11 minutes later, after some sustained pressure on the Everton defence.
The visitors regained their lead in the 29th minute through Doucore’s well-placed header, but Forest refused to be beaten and continued to push forward in search of an equaliser. Johnson, who was a constant threat to the Everton defence, finally found the back of the net again in the 75th minute with a superb strike to level the scores once more.
The hosts will take the draw as a positive result, but both sides will have to quickly shift their focus to their next fixtures. Everton will host Brentford on Saturday, while Nottingham Forest will travel to Tottenham Hotspur on the same day.
