December 01, (THEWILL) – Juventus defeated Serie A’s bottom team Salernitana 2-0 with goals from the boots of Paulo Dybala and Alvaro Morata.
It took 21 minutes for the opener as Dybala scored after exchanging passes with Dejan Kulusevski and blasting home from the edge of the box.
There was a second for Juve when Dybala’s free kick rebounded against the post for Giorgio Chiellini to drive home but Moise Kean was judged offside from the original kick and the goal was chalked off correctly.
Salernitana almost pulled one back in the 58th minute, but Luca Ranieri’s shot rebounded back against the inside of the post with Wojciech Szczesny beaten.
Nigeria’s Simy Nwankwo, who moved to Salernitana on a loan deal, after Crotone was relegated at the end of last season, was in the starting lineup but has failed to rekindle the form that saw him deliver regular goals last season. He was substituted for Milan Djuric, five minutes after the hour mark.
Six minutes later, Morata’s audacious flick at the near post from Federico Bernardeschi’s low cross ensured Juventus departed Stadio Arechi with three points in the kitty.
Juve needed this win given their recent defeats, but they remain in seventh place on the table. 18th-placed Genoa is their next destination, another team struggling to air in the relegation zone. It should be another routine win for the Old Lady but Stefano Colantuono’s charges might be up for a fight.
As for Salernitana, who have missed out on a chance to climb out of last place, things are not going to get any easier for them as they travel to second-placed Milan for their next match.
