March 06, (THEWILL) – A rejigged Juventus starting XI put in a disappointing performance on Sunday evening in Turin, although it was fortunately just enough to beat Spezia by a slim 1-0 margin.
Juve had to wait until the middle of the first half to create a clear-cut opportunity, which resulted in the game’s only goal. Morata completed a sweeping play featuring newboy Dusan Vlahovic and Manuel Locatelli by hitting the back of the net with a clean, low strike, his first Serie A goal of 2022.
Soon after the half-hour mark, Juan Cuadrado forced Ivan Provedel into a brilliant save, and Vlahovic was unable to capitalise when Locatelli lifted a pass over the top for him.
Early in the second half, the hosts were almost punished, but Emmanuel Gyasi could only fire a free header straight at Juve goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny. With just over 10 minutes to go, the Pole was called back into action, coming off his line to smother Kevin Agudelo’s effort.
In stoppage time, Morata missed a wonderful chance to double his score by failing to make perfect contact with a low cross but they had done enough to claim maximum points and consolidate on fourth place in the standings.
