December 29, (THEWILL) – A Serie A match between Juventus and Fiorentina was briefly interrupted during Sunday’s fixture in Turin following discriminatory chants directed at striker, Dusan Vlahovic.
The match official halted proceedings after seven minutes to address the situation with both team captains.
The incident occurred at the Allianz Stadium when match referee Maurizio Mariani suspended play to issue a warning through the stadium’s public address system, requesting spectators to cease their discriminatory behaviour.
Players from both teams gathered in the centre circle during the stoppage before resuming the contest. Serbian forward Vlahovic, who transferred from Fiorentina to Juventus in 2022, has faced similar treatment from supporters of his former club.
The 24-year-old’s previous encounters with Fiorentina fans resulted in disciplinary action, with the club receiving a suspended one-match ban in November 2023 for discriminatory chants targeting multiple Juventus players.
