December 18, (THEWILL) – On Saturday, Juventus weathered a ferocious Bologna storm to claim a 2-0 victory in Serie A that will help them stay in track of the leading sides in the division.
For much of the game, Massimiliano Allegri’s side was second best, but they eventually found the goals they needed to return to Turin with the much coveted three points in the bag.
With the first shot of the game, Federico Bernardeschi played a lovely pass between the Bologna backline, and Alvaro Morata smashed home at the near post for Juventus.
The visitors were able to play more confidently on the counter after that early goal, with Morata going close on the break around the 15-minute mark.
At the other end, Wojciech Szczęsny held Marko Arnautovic’s looping header, while Mattias Svanberg’s acrobatic overhead kick went just wide. But, Bologna were generating problems for their opponents, stripping Adrien Rabiot of the ball and Musa Barrow shooting it over.
Bologna piled on the pressure after the break as the hosts created a chance that was nearly identical to Morata’s opener, but Szczesny denied Nicolas Dominguez with a proper save.
Juventus doubled their tally against the run of play when Juan Cuadrado’s powerful strike from the edge of the box reached the top corner, rattling the net.
As the game approached its latter stages, Juve were finally purring and producing opportunities more readily, with Bernardeschi and Rabiot both going close. Then, Bologna attempted to take advantage but Allegri’s side hung on to finish within five points of a top-four spot in Serie A.
