April 26, (THEWILL) – Juventus snatched a 2-1 win over Sassuolo on Monday night, thanks to a late goal from substitute Moise Kean, bringing them to within a point of third-placed Napoli in Serie A.
Giacomo Raspadori had given the hosts the lead, but a brilliant equaliser from Paulo Dybala brought Juve back into the game, and Kean waltzed through to give Massimiliano Allegri’s side the win.
Raspadori, the young and impressive player, came near to opening the scoring early on, cutting inside and firing a ferocious shot just wide of Wojciech Szczesny’s far post.
In the early stages, Sassuolo were the superior team, with Davide Frattesi’s flick from a corner narrowly avoiding the crossbar. With a solid effort, Gianluca Scamacca forced a wonderful save from Szczesny to signal their intent.
Then, Domenico Berardi’s creative flick rewarded the hosts’ dominance by allowing Sassuolo break down the Juve defence. Raspadori pounced on it, smashing his shot beyond Szczesny at the near post to cap a beautiful move.
Juventus have lately shown themselves to be made of tougher stuff under Allegri, and despite being outplayed for huge swaths of the game, the visitors recovered fast. High up in the air, Alvaro Morata won the ball, which fell to Dybala, and the latter blasted his shot past Andrea Consigli.
As Juve improved, the two teams began to share opportunities more fairly. Before Szczesny denied Mert Muldur, Consigli had to keep out a Morata header at the near post.
The Bianconeri, on the other hand, kept Sassuolo out long enough for Kean to turn the home defence inside out and blast past Consigli.
With the win, Juve, who are still fourth, have come into contention for third especially after Napoli’s recent poor run of form and disappointing results. On the other hand, Sassuolo occupy the ninth place in the standings with four games left in the season.
