April 12, (THEWILL) – The investigation into the finances of Juventus conducted by Italy’s Football Association (FIGC) over allegations of irregular payments to players, has been concluded according to a statement released by the club on Wednesday.
The allegations concern the club’s payment of players’ wages after making cuts due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The Old Lady may face further penalties if found guilty.
“The club could face a sports tribunal” if the FIGC prosecutors decide that Juventus should face further sanctions, said the club in that statement. The team has 15 days to file their own documents or request to be interviewed. Juventus have stated that they “correctly applied the relevant international accounting standards.”
Massimiliano Allegri’s club has already been hit with a 15-point deduction in the current Serie A season, as well as bans on officials preventing them from holding office in Italian soccer, in a separate case regarding transfer dealings and finances. The new investigation has the potential to further impact the club’s performance in the current and future Serie A seasons. Juventus has denied any wrongdoing.
