August 24, (THEWILL) – Nollywood actress, Kate Henshaw, has called on the Federal Government to scrap the annual National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) scheme.
The mother of one made the passionate call for an end to the scheme because the lives of innocent young Nigerians are being put at risk every year.
After news of the abduction of eight corps members in Zamfara State was made known, Henshaw took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to express her dissatisfaction with the program.
According to her, the integrity of the program has been compromised and it is no longer a memorable experience like it was when she was a youth corp member.
She revealed that interstate travelling is no longer safe as it used to be, which is why she is advocating for an end to the scheme.
Recounting the freebies and privileges she enjoyed many years ago when she was serving in Bauchi State, she stated that the scheme is moribund and no more a memorable experience.
“When I served in the North, it was a very memorable experience. Travelling from Bauchi by road to the airport was safe and then flying to Lagos just with my NYSC ID card, which also got me a rebate on my ticket.
“It’s time to scrap this idea since corpers can’t travel within this country without hindrance. Stop putting the lives of young people at risk with moribund ideas. Security is a priority and needs to be sorted totally, not technically,” she tweeted.
