November 19, (THEWILL) — Taraba State Governor, Dr. Agbu Kefas, on Wednesday laid before the State House of Assembly a proposed budget of N650.63 billion for the 2026 fiscal year, describing it as a development-focused financial plan aimed at accelerating growth and improving the welfare of residents.
Tagged the 2026 Budget of Demonstration, the governor said the proposal underscores his administration’s commitment to a capital-intensive strategy designed to expand infrastructure, enhance energy access, and drive social development across the state.
He disclosed that N457.74 billion—representing 70.6 per cent of the total estimate—is allocated to capital expenditure, while N192.89 billion, or 29.64 per cent, is earmarked for recurrent spending.
“Seven out of every ten naira will be channelled to physical development,” Kefas stated.
He explained that the budget will be funded through FAAC allocations, internally generated revenue, grants, aids, and capital development receipts.
The administration will also strengthen digital revenue systems and explore fresh income opportunities in agriculture, mining, property, business, and tourism.
According to the breakdown, key sectoral allocations include: Roads and Transport – 19.84 per cent; Education and Skills Development -15.98 per cent; Healthcare 6.19 per cent; Agriculture and Food Security – 4.83 per cent; Water and Sanitation – 3.19 per cent; Security and Emergency Services – 2.96 per cent.
Kefas emphasised energy as “the backbone of development,” adding that the state will invest heavily in solar mini-grids, hybrid rural electrification, street lighting, and reliable power supply for schools, hospitals, markets, and agro-processing centres.
