July 20, (THEWILL) – Darwin Nunez’s start at Liverpool has been hailed as “more than satisfactory” by Jurgen Klopp and his coaching staff.
The striker joined the Reds for a record-breaking €100 million (£85.2 million) deal back in June, conveniently just before Sadio Mane left for Bayern Munich, but, after getting an hour of involvement in each preseason game, failed to spark in Liverpool’s tour of Asia, missing a great opportunity in the 4-0 thrashing by Manchester United in Bangkok and drawing a blank against Crystal Palace in Singapore.
In his little time on the field during both friendlies, Nunez did test the goalkeeper with excellent efforts from half-chances even though one obvious miss became the subject of online throlling that quickly went viral. Yet, Nunez’s start in front of goal is no bother for Klopp or his staff because they admire how the player can go around defenders and find open space.
They also think there are early indications of a possible relationship with their offensive full-backs, who have recently become go-to sources for players like Mohamed Salah and Mane. Following the friendly match against Palace, Klopp discussed the player and said: “I am not worried at all.
“The general judgement is 0.0 percent interesting. We all know it’s a joke, or a game for some people to pick out some situations where a player is not doing well. The only really important thing, first and foremost, is how I judge the situation for the player. I couldn’t be more calm about it. I am completely convinced about his potential.”
