May 18, (THEWILL) – Nick Kyrgios, the Australian tennis star and Wimbledon finalist, has withdrawn from the upcoming French Open due to a foot injury sustained during a car theft incident, according to Daniel Horsfall, his agent.
As THEWILL previously reported, Kyrgios’s mother was allegedly held up at gunpoint near their Canberra residence earlier this month, leading to the theft of his Tesla. Horsfall revealed that the player injured his left foot during the “high-adrenaline rush of everything” that occurred during the robbery.
The injury has set him back approximately two-and-a-half weeks in his training schedule for the Grand Slam. Following the incident, a suspect was apprehended by authorities in Canberra, with Kyrgios providing assistance by using a tracking app on his phone to locate his stolen car.
Although Kyrgios cannot recall the precise circumstances that caused the foot laceration, Horsfall speculated that he may have hurt himself while rushing through his house after hearing his distressed mother. The laceration, situated beneath the left side of his foot near the baby toe, has hindered his on-court training, preventing him from sliding and aggravating the injury whenever a shoe is worn.
Despite the setback, Horsfall assured that Kyrgios’s foot is nearly healed, and he will soon increase his practice hours in preparation for the grass season, including the Stuttgart tournament. While Kyrgios has not publicly addressed the incident, he shared on social media that he has been experiencing sleep deprivation and is currently “battling a little.” The French Open, the second Grand Slam tournament of the year, is scheduled to take place from May 28 to June 11.
