May 30, (THEWILL) – LA Galaxy winger Douglas Costa is facing an arrest warrant over allegations of failing to meet his child support obligations.
Currently playing in Major League Soccer on loan from Gremio as a designated player, the 31-year-old Brazilian is now at risk of being apprehended if he travels back to his homeland. The 8th Family Court of Porte Alegre, Brazil issued the warrant on Friday, May 26, as reported by GZH. Costa’s legal representative, Sergio Queiroz, has confirmed that the player intends to appeal the decision in order to ensure that “justice is served.”
Since joining LA Galaxy in February 2022, Costa’s time in the United States has been marred by limited opportunities on the field. The winger has only made four appearances this season, and his frustration was evident when he received a red card during the team’s 3-0 defeat to Houston.
Prior to his move across the Atlantic, Costa enjoyed a successful stint in Europe, playing for clubs such as Shakhtar Donetsk, Bayern Munich, and Juventus, where he achieved several league titles.
