May 13 (THEWILL) – The Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa, has declared his intention to contest for the Agege Federal Constituency seat in the House of Representatives
Obasa, who has represented Agege Constituency I in the Lagos State House of Assembly since 2003 and spent more than a decade as Speaker, made the declaration during a stakeholders’ meeting held on Tuesday in Agege, Lagos, ahead of the primaries of the All Progressives Congress for the 2027 general elections.
The Speaker said his decision to seek election into the National Assembly followed consultations with party leaders, stakeholders and supporters across the constituency, noting that he was prepared to continue his legislative career on a broader national platform.
“In the presence of party leaders, stakeholders, loyal members and supporters, I formally declared my intention to contest for the Agege Federal Constituency seat in the House of Representatives under our great party, the APC.
“After two decades and three years of representing the good people of Agege Constituency I in the Lagos State House of Assembly, and serving for over a decade as Speaker, I believe the time has come to begin another chapter in my legislative journey. This decision was not made lightly.
“It is driven by a renewed commitment to continue serving our people on a broader platform, while building on the experience, relationships, and dedication that have defined my years in public service,” he declared.
Obasa also expressed appreciation to the people of Agege for what he described as their consistent trust and support throughout his political journey.
“I remain profoundly grateful to the people of Agege for the trust, support and confidence they have consistently reposed in me since 2003,” he said.
As part of moves to consolidate support within the party ahead of the APC primaries, the Speaker urged party faithful and residents of Agege to support the aspiration of the immediate past Chairman of Agege Local Government Council, Ganiyu Kola Egunjobi, who is seeking to represent Agege Constituency I in the Lagos State House of Assembly.
He also endorsed Azeez Oladapo Yusuf Ninolowo for the Agege Constituency II seat in the Assembly.
