April 27, (THEWILL) – Chelsea defender, Marc Cucurella, is set to be sidelined for several weeks following a quad injury sustained in training.
The news was confirmed by Interim Head Coach and Caretaker Manager, Frank Lampard, after their 2-0 defeat at home to Brentford on Wednesday.
The defeat marks Chelsea’s fifth consecutive loss in all competitions, a run not experienced by the club in 30 years. Lampard returned for his second spell at the club earlier this month, and all five of these defeats have occurred under his guidance. Some Chelsea fans were disappointed with the team’s performance and booed at full-time.
“I know these fans very well and they stick by their team. They feel down because they are used to success and they want that success all the time as we all do. I absolutely understand it, we, as players and staff, have to take it on the chin because they want results,” said Lampard.
“This is not a sob story but everything is going against us. We would love a magic wand, a magic moment. It doesn’t come in football because the Premier League moves so fast, it’s competitive.”
