April 06, (THEWILL) – Chelsea have confirmed that they have rehired former player and manager, Frank Lampard, to take over as caretaker manager in an interim capacity.
This comes after the club parted ways with Graham Potter due to a disappointing performance in the past six months. Initially, the interim charge was handed over to one of Potter’s former assistants, Bruno Saltor.
However, Chelsea moved quickly to bring back Lampard to the West London club, where he will take charge of the team while the search for a permanent manager continues. Lampard is the club’s all-time record goalscorer and was one of their best players in history. He previously managed Chelsea between 2019 and 2021, leading the team in his first season despite a transfer ban and integrating academy players.
Lampard then went on to manage Everton at the start of 2022, where he ensured Premier League safety for the club. However, he was sacked in January as the team was again in danger of relegation. With his return to Chelsea, Lampard now has a chance to prove himself, once again, as a successful manager.
