June 15, (THEWILL) – Jordan Morris saved a point for the United States Men’s National Team (USMNT) in CONCACAF Nations League action in El Salvador after 90 minutes on a drenched, sloppy and muddy pitch.
The United States found itself in a prime CONCACAF away match against a tough opponent, on a field ravaged by severe rain and only rescued a point in the 90th minute, despite the lousy conditions, poor officiating, and an agitated opponent bent on taking full points.
Alex Larin caught goalkeeper Ethan Horvath off guard just before halftime, putting El Salvador up at the interval. The second half was tense, and with 20 minutes remaining, substitute Paul Arriola was sent off.
El Salvador, however, lost a player less than 10 minutes later when Ronald Rodriguez was sent off for a last-man foul on Yunus Musah.
Morris eventually found the crucial moment, beating Larin in the air and heading a de la Torre cross into the net to save a point for the USMNT. As a result of the setback, the US will need four points from its next two games to qualify for the Nations League final stage.
