December 25, (THEWILL) – Leon Balogun, central defender for the Super Eagles and Glasgow Rangers, will have to pass a late fitness test in order to make Rangers’ matchday squad for their Scottish Premiership match against St Mirren on Boxing Day.

Balogun missed the last eight games in all competitions for the Light Blues’ after suffering an injury in the League Cup defeat to Hibernian on November 21.

The possibility of the former Wigan Athletic and Brighton & Hove midfielder returning to Nigeria will be a huge boost for the country, as he is expected to be selected in the squad for the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations.

Calvin Bassey, another Nigerian defender, has filled in well for Balogun, assisting the club in keeping six clean sheets since Giovanni van Bronckhorst took over as manager.

Balogun is expected to be available for the Saints’ visit, according to the Dutch football tactician, who said he took part in today’s training session.

“No injury concerns. Leon is joining us today with the session so we have to see if he is fit enough to be available for Sunday,” Van Bronckhorst said while addressing reporters at Friday’s press conference.

Rangers currently are top of the table with 48 points after fifteen victories, three draws, and only one loss under Van Bronckhorst’s reign.
