August 27, (THEWILL) – Two substitutes for Lazio, Luis Alberto and Pedro, gave the Biancocelesti a 3-1 victory over Inter at the Stadio Olimpico, handing the Milan side their first loss of the Serie A season.
The Nerazzurri had been one of three clubs to open the season with six points out of a possible six, but Friday’s trip to the capital represented their first true test. Despite initially bouncing back from Felipe Anderson’s first-half header, Simone Inzaghi’s team did not pass the test at the former home of their current manager.
There were very few opportunities for Inter to tie the score, and Lautaro Martinez took one of them. However, Luis Alberto scored a deflected goal to restore Lazio’s lead, and there was no response from the visitors when Pedro added a late third to seal all three points.
Thanks to this victory, Lazio has climbed to the summit of Serie A. They have gone unbeaten in their past seven league games and appear well-equipped to once again contend for a spot in the top four, even though it is still early days. Meanwhile, Inter slip to fourth place in the standings.
Lazio maintained its impressive recent home record against Inter and there is a message there for other teams in Serie A. This season, they will be a force to reckon with, especially if they can keep winning at the Stadio Olimpico
