May 27, (THEWILLL) – Bayern Munich’s Chief Executive, Oliver Kahn, and board member for sport, Hasan Salihamidzic, have departed from their roles shortly after the Bundesliga champions secured their 11th consecutive League title.
The decision came just hours after their thrilling victory that saw them leapfrog Borussia Dortmund to retain their crown. Former Germany goalkeeper Kahn, who enjoyed a successful playing career at Bayern with over 350 appearances, and his former teammate Salihamidzic were permanently relieved of their duties.
Vice-chairman, Jan-Christian Dreesen, will assume the position of Kahn, while the appointment for Salihamidzic’s successor is still pending. In an official statement released on the club’s website, Bayern Munich announced the changes, stating that the decision was made by the club’s supervisory board.
Herbert Hainer, chairman of Bayern’s supervisory board, said: “The decision to part with Oliver Kahn was anything but easy for the supervisory board. Nevertheless, due to the overall development, we have come to the decision to make a new appointment at the top of the executive board.
Meanwhile, Salihamidzic, who returned to the club as sporting director in 2017 and was later promoted to board member for sport, respected the decision and expressed his desire for unity and success for the team and fans.
