April 23, (THEWILL) – Milan ended their poor Serie A run and revived their UEFA Champions League ambitions with a comfortable 2-0 victory over Lecce at San Siro on Sunday.
After reaching the UCL semi-finals in midweek, Milan badly needed a win to halt their slide in the domestic league. And it was Rafael Leao who came to their rescue, scoring twice to secure the crucial three points.
He therefore joined Cristiano Ronaldo as the only other Portuguese player to score 10 or more goals in two consecutive Serie A seasons. Ronaldo achieved this feat while playing for Juventus between 2018-2019 and 2020-2021.
The win moved Milan level on points with fourth-placed Roma, who face Atalanta on Monday, and kept their Champions League qualification hopes alive. Lecce, meanwhile, remain uncomfortably close to the relegation zone, with just five games remaining in the season.
Milan’s next game is a huge clash against Roma on Saturday, while Lecce host Udinese the day before.
