July 11, (THEWILL) – Charles Leclerc, Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton, who finished on the podium in the Austrian Grand Prix, were each given suspended €10,000 fines for breaking parc ferme rules pertaining to physios dealing with their drivers.
The Austrian GP stewards summoned representatives from each driver’s respective Ferrari, Red Bull, and Mercedes teams following each driver’s time in parc ferme receiving medical attention from their respective physios and before they were weighed.
According to the Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA), it received a report from the media delegate stating that the physios had “entered parc ferme without permission and in violation of the procedure that was published prior to the race ‘for the orderly conduct of the event’,” a claim that “was subsequently confirmed by video evidence.”
This violated International Sporting Code article 12.1.1(i), which deals with disobeying “the instructions of the relevant officials for the safe and orderly conduct of the event.” The method was put in place, in part, “to prevent [the] handing over of items to the drivers prior to them being weighed,” as stated in the stewards’ announcements of the punishment.
The remarks further stated that, “the competitors are warned that the passes of the individuals concerned may be revoked in case of systemic violation” in addition to the suspended penalty being awarded.
