March 24, (THEWILL) – Leeds United have been forced to close their Elland Road stadium “until further notice”, following a security threat made via social media.
The threat prompted the West Yorkshire Police to carry out investigations, leading to the necessity to effect a closure of several facilities within the stadium. The affected facilities include the club shop, offices, ticket office, and Foundation offices.
In a statement released on Friday, Leeds United acknowledged the closure and apologised for the inconvenience caused. “Leeds United’s offices, ticket office, Foundation offices and club shop at Elland Road will be closed until further notice on the advice of the police”, the statement read. “We apologise for any inconvenience and we will inform the public when normal service resumes.”
A 42-year-old man has been arrested “in connection with the incident and enquiries remain ongoing,” according to the West Yorkshire Police. Meanwhile, the English Premier League club has assured fans that it is cooperating with the police to ensure the safety of everyone involved.
“The safety and security of our fans, players, and staff is of paramount importance and we are cooperating with the police on the matter”, the club said in the statement.
