April 06, (THEWILL) – Ashleigh Plumptre has been selected in the Super Falcons team for the upcoming friendlies against Olympic winners Canada, according to Leicester City’s official website.
As THEWILL reported, the Super Falcons will play the Canadians at BC Place in Vancouver on April 8 and at Langford’s Starlight Stadium on Vancouver Island three days later in a doubleheader set of friendly games.
The Canada squad sheet named players from Chelsea, Paris Saint-Germain, Manchester City, West Ham United, Tottenham Hotspur, Juventus, and Reading players for both games nine days ago.
The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has yet to announce the list of players who have been invited to participate against the Canadians and Plumptre’s inclusion only came by way of Leicester City.
THEWILL recalls that Plumptre was left out of the Foxes’ Women’s Super League match against Arsenal on Sunday owing to a head injury she sustained on March 27 against Chelsea.
Last month, the former England youth international made an impression on her senior debut against Ivory Coast in a 2022 African Women’s Cup of Nations qualification match. Even though she conceded a penalty in the rematch in Abidjan, Nigeria won 1-0.
The Falcons will use the friendly matches against Canada as part of their preparations for the AWCON, which will be held in Morocco this summer and will also serve as the African qualifiers for the 2023 Women’s World Cup.
