November 12, (THEWILL) – Bayer Leverkusen extended their winning streak to 12 matches across all competitions on Sunday, with a comprehensive 4-0 victory over struggling Union Berlin.
The result sent Leverkusen back to the top of the Bundesliga table after 11 games. Alejandro Grimaldo opened the scoring for the hosts in the 23rd minute with a rifled shot from outside the box.
Leverkusen continued to dominate and doubled their advantage through an Odilon Kossounou header in the 57th minute. Jonathan Tah then volleyed in a third goal in the 73rd minute to put the match beyond doubt.
Amine Adli and Nathan Tella combined late on to add a fourth goal in the 83rd minute, with Tella drilling home from a tight angle. The emphatic win is Leverkusen’s seventh consecutive Bundesliga victory this season with Victor Boniface playing his part for all of 87 minutes.
The result sees Leverkusen move two points clear at the top of the table on 31 points, with Bayern Munich second on 29. Union Berlin remain rock bottom in 18th after a ninth straight league defeat.
