April 12, (THEWILL) – Liverpool have reportedly backed away from trying to sign midfielder Jude Bellingham this summer.
The Anfield club is withdrawing because they find Borussia Dortmund’s asking price for the player to be too high. While Dortmund has indicated a willingness to sell, the €150m price tag would surpass Liverpool’s club-record sale of €144m for Ousmane Dembele in 2017.
Real Madrid and Manchester City are still in the running to sign Bellingham, who is set to speak with Dortmund in April to discuss his future. Bellingham, who is under contract with Dortmund until 2025, has the option to stay with the club for another year. If he does leave this summer, Real Madrid and Manchester City are the current frontrunners, with Paris Saint-Germain and Chelsea also showing interest.
However, should Bellingham decide to stay at Dortmund and sign a new deal with a release clause, Liverpool and possibly Manchester United could become contenders in 2024.
