September 24, (THEWILL) – Liverpool emerged victorious in their English Premier League clash with West Ham on Sunday, winning 3-1 at the London Stadium. Goals from Mohamed Salah, Darwin Nunez and substitute, Diogo Jota, were enough to extend the Reds’ winning run to five consecutive league matches.
Salah opened the scoring for Liverpool from the penalty spot in the 16th minute after he was brought down in the area. West Ham found an equaliser just before half-time through Jarrod Bowen, who scored with a diving header.
The second half saw Liverpool retake control of the match. Nunez made amends for an earlier miss by volleying home just at the hour mark, following a superb chipped pass from Alexis Mac Allister. Jota then sealed the three points late on, tapping in at the back post from a Virgil van Dijk flick on at a corner.
The win sees Liverpool remain within two points of league leaders Manchester City, after six games, as they continue their pursuit at the top of the table. Jurgen Klopp’s side have now won their last five league matches as they look to hunt down the champions in this early stage of the campaign.
