January 30, (THEWILL) – Luis Diaz, a winger for Porto, has been signed by Liverpool. After two and a half years in Portugal, the 25-year-old has signed a long-term deal with the Reds that is expected to last until 2027.
Despite being away on international service with Colombia, where he top scored at last summer’s Copa America, Diaz completed a medical and will move to England after the €7 million contract that brought him to Porto in 2019.
Liverpool agreed to pay Porto a total of €60 million, including €45 million in regular payments and €15 million in performance-related bonuses.
His arrival is yet another transfer triumph for Liverpool, demonstrating the club’s willingness to bolster Jurgen Klopp’s roster, which already includes Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane, and Diogo Jota.
Tottenham had expressed interest in bringing Diaz to north London, and were even considered favourites to do so before Liverpool made their move.
He will wear the number 23 shirt at Anfield, which had previously been worn by Jamie Carragher, and joins Liverpool following a fantastic first half of the season with Porto.
Diaz scored 14 goals in 18 league games, as well as two goals in six Champions League group stage matches.
