December 27, (THEWILL) – Liverpool maintained their position at the pinnacle of the English Premier League, extending their advantage to seven points, following a 3-1 victory over Leicester City at Anfield on Boxing Day.

The match commenced with an early surprise as Leicester, facing the threat of relegation, took the lead within six minutes.

This goal provided a much-needed boost for Leicester, who had earlier slipped into the relegation zone after Wolverhampton Wanderers defeated Manchester United.

Liverpool responded with increased urgency, with Robertson and Mohamed Salah both striking the woodwork.

However, they ultimately broke through with a spectacular strike from Cody Gakpo, after which the momentum shifted decisively in Liverpool’s favour.

Curtis Jones further solidified Liverpool’s lead early in the second half, confidently converting a cross from Alexis Mac Allister.

Mohamed Salah then sealed the victory in the 82nd minute, notching his 100th EPL goal at Anfield and his 16th of the current campaign.

Liverpool’s lead at the top of the table could potentially be reduced to six points when Arsenal host Ipswich Town on Friday.

Meanwhile, Leicester currently occupies 18th place in the league, one point behind Wolverhampton Wanderers.
