November 27, (THEWILL) — Liverpool suffered a crushing 4-1 defeat to PSV Eindhoven at Anfield on Wednesday evening, leaving Arne Slot’s side languishing in 13th place in the UEFA Champions League league phase standings. The hosts fell behind after just six minutes when Virgil van Dijk conceded a penalty for handball from a corner, allowing Ivan Perisic to convert from the spot. Driouech completed the rout in stoppage time, finishing from Sergino Dest’s cutback to seal a memorable victory for the Dutch visitors. Jeers rang out around Anfield at the final whistle, reflecting the growing frustration with Slot and his struggling team.
PSV had previously defeated Liverpool on the final day of last season’s league phase, though the Merseyside club had already clinched top spot by that point. This time, the circumstances were far more damaging for a side in desperate need of points and confidence.
