December 23, (THEWILL) — Liverpool have confirmed that Alexander Isak underwent surgery on Monday after fracturing his fibula during Saturday’s match against Tottenham. The Sweden striker sustained the injury whilst scoring in the second half at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Isak came on during the interval and found the net but was hurt by a challenge from Micky van de Ven. He left the field in clear discomfort, prompting concerns over the severity of the problem.
A Liverpool statement confirmed the diagnosis. “After diagnosis, an operation was completed today on an ankle injury that included a fibula fracture,” the club said. “Isak’s rehabilitation will now continue at the AXA Training Centre.”
The club have not provided a specific timeframe for his return, though the forward is expected to miss several months of action. The setback represents another blow for manager Arne Slot during a challenging period.
Isak has found form hard to come by since his British-record move from Newcastle. His goal against Spurs was only his third in 16 outings across all competitions this season.
