March 11, (THEWILL) – Joel Matip of Liverpool has been named the Premier League’s Player of the Month for February.

Last month, Matip started all four of Liverpool’s league games, keeping three clean sheets and conceding only once in a 3-1 win against Norwich.

His influence was felt on both sides of the field. Matip provided a great assist to set up Diogo Jota in Liverpool’s 2-0 win over Leicester to start the month, before scoring one of the six goals Liverpool scored against Leeds in their final game of the month.

Matip won the award ahead of fellow contenders Che Adams, Ryan Fraser, Harry Kane, Ben Mee, and Wilfried Zaha for his outstanding efforts.

Following Mohamed Salah in October and Trent Alexander-Arnold in November, Matip became the third Liverpool player to win the award this season.

His display helped Liverpool reduce the distance on Premier League leaders Manchester City to six points, with Jurgen Klopp’s side also having a game in hand on their bitter rivals.
