January 23, (THEWILL) – Liverpool left-back Andy Robertson is in line to make his first appearance since October after stepping up his recovery from a shoulder injury. The 29-year-old Scotland international sustained the damage in a collision during a Euro 2024 qualifier, undergoing surgery that was expected to keep him out for an extended period.
However, after 13 weeks on the sidelines, Robertson has now been cleared to resume full contact training with the Liverpool squad. Assistant manager Pep Lijnders confirmed on Tuesday that Robertson trained with the first team on Monday, and had a meeting with the surgeon to get the green light for contact.
Lijnders praised the work Robertson has done in rehab to get fit from a sports science perspective. Now he needs match sharpness, which will come from training fully with his teammates. Still, having Robertson available again is a major boost for Liverpool as they battle on four fronts.
The left-back is one of the senior leaders in Jurgen Klopp’s squad. With Liverpool holding a 2-1 lead going into the second leg of their League Cup semi-final at Fulham, Robertson looks set to travel with the team on Wednesday, as he pushes for a place in the matchday squad.
