February 08, (THEWILL) – Tottenham Hotspur captain, Hugo Lloris, has been dealt a major blow as he is set to miss the next six to eight weeks of action due to a knee injury.
Lloris sustained the injury during the team’s 1-0 win against Manchester City on Sunday. The victory was expected to revive Tottenham’s struggling season, but now they face the challenge of playing several key fixtures without their captain.
The 36-year-old will miss several crucial matches, including both legs of their UEFA Champions League last 16 tie against AC Milan. The Frenchman has not had the best of seasons at club level, and this injury comes at a time when the team is fighting to secure a place in the top four of the English Premier League.
With Lloris out of the starting lineup, summer signing, Fraser Forster, is expected to take his place. Forster has made only one EPL appearance for Tottenham so far, in their 2-2 draw at Brentford on Boxing Day. Forster’s manning the space between the sticks appears to be a stopgap move.
On a more long-term basis, Tottenham has been looking for a replacement for Lloris and is said to be considering Brentford’s David Raya, Brighton’s Robert Sanchez and Everton’s Jordan Pickford.
