Ademola Lookman

February 02, (THEWILL) — Atletico Madrid have completed the signing of Ademola Lookman from Atalanta on deadline day. The Nigeria international has agreed a four-and-a-half-year contract, with the Spanish club reportedly paying €35m for his services.

Lookman departs Bergamo after three-and-a-half seasons in which he scored 41 goals across 105 appearances for the Italian side. His most memorable contribution came in the 2023 Europa League final, where he netted a hat-trick to help Atalanta end a 61-year wait for silverware. The forward also claimed the Africa Player of the Year award in 2024 whilst at the club.

The 27-year-old had attempted to leave last summer when a proposed move to Inter collapsed. He has now secured his desired exit and will join Diego Simeone’s squad for the remainder of the campaign.

In a farewell message posted online, Lookman thanked Atalanta supporters and staff for their support during his time in Italy. “From the moment I arrived in Bergamo, you welcomed me like one of your own and pushed me to be the best version of myself”, he wrote. “Every cheer, every banner, every away trip meant something. Thank you for making Bergamo feel like home and for giving me memories I will carry forever.”

Lookman managed just 12 appearances this season for Atalanta, finding the net twice before his departure to the Spanish capital.
