October 22, (THEWILL) – Aston Villa produced an excellent performance to beat West Ham United 4-1 at Villa Park on Sunday. Two goals from Douglas Luiz and further strikes from Ollie Watkins and Leon Bailey, secured a comfortable victory for the hosts.
Villa went ahead at the half-hour mark when Luiz fired home from inside the box. The Brazilian midfielder then doubled his tally from the penalty spot in the 51st minute after Ezri Konsa was brought down by Edson Alvarez.
West Ham pulled a goal back shortly after when Jarrod Bowen’s deflected shot left Emiliano Martinez wrong-footed. However, Villa restored their two-goal advantage just two minutes later through Watkins’ composed finish following a rapid counter-attack.
Bailey rounded off an impressive afternoon for Villa with a fine goal after cutting inside from the right flank and curling his shot into the far corner.
The win lifts Villa up to fifth in the English Premier League on 19 points, just one behind the top four. West Ham stay ninth with 14 points.
